As I sit out in the mornings newness surrounded by fresh smells, new noises of the world awakening, as I disturb the sunbathing fox, I contemplate this day and how it shall be spent.
Firstly, I will set my soul right, it gets disjointed at times, out of kilter, off balance.
I ponder and think, I sit and meditate mindfully relaxing my breathing, noticing the atmosphere.
Then as I open the pages of a well used devotional I read a few words.
Nothing much catches my eye or my heart then in a moment’s flash a sentence appears like fresh dew on the grass.
John Braille 1936, a Scots theologian penned these words…
‘Yet let me not, when this morning prayer is said, think my worship ended and spend the day in forgetfulness of you.’
‘Rather from these moments of quietness let light go forth, and joy, and power, that will remain with me through all the hours of the day.’
I was contemplating a recent dialogue I experienced with a friend who expressed their interest in a variety of spiritual practices and mixes them into their Christian beliefs, this is fairly normal in our pick and mix society. Not all additions are to be viewed as conflicting, some are beneficial, supportive, wholesome and others aren’t so……something to consider.
This practice of pick and mix can be named duplicity or synchronicity, alchemy a mixing together to achieve something that may be a different mix or more refined.
I considered my walk as I know that God desires a faithful heart that has no other Gods before Him.
Exodus 20 v 3.
I started to consider my practices, beliefs, considerations, my walk.
I want to go to heaven( not just yet ) as a true and faithful servant, worshipper not an ideologist but a compassionate servant.
This morning it may be as you read this that you have fallen away from the path, or added some stuff that’s just not helpful or things that have taken your heart away from your fist love.
My prayer this morning is to keep us from all wrong all turning away . To remain a faithful worshipper, a diligent and honourable child of God.
Be thou my vision my guide and my hope and my refuge in every storm.
There is always a place at the Father’s table and His heart is open and ready to receive us always.
Join me in this prayer today, Guard against all that threats my spirits welfare in Jesus name Amen.
A contemplation meditation
